Running Club

January 11, 2012

Attention Running Club Members and Parents,

The Winter Running Session has already begun as we prepare our Camilla Relay Teams for Indoor Relay Season and the Edmonton Journal Indoor Games preliminary round. We are practicing at school every Monday during the noon recess and every Thursday morning at 7:30 am. If students are not able to make the morning practice it is very important that they commit to attending the noon recess practice.

This year I have found another indoor relay event for our teams to participate in. It is the Edmonton Harriers 2012 Elementary Schools Relays. This event takes place at the Kinsmen Sports Centre in Edmonton on Friday, January 27th, 2012. Doors open at 5:45 pm with the first race at 6:45 pm. This is a 4x200m event which means that there needs to be 4 boys or 4 girls on a team, each runner will run 200m. Further information can be found on their web site www.edmontonharriers.ca. I would like to enter 4 elementary teams (2 boys and 2 girls). Please complete the attached form and have it returned to me before Tuesday, January 17th if your child would like to participate. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from this event. Carpooling is recommended as parking is limited.

As well, we would like to participate in the Edmonton Journal Indoor Games again this year. The Running Club will be travelling to the Universiade Pavilion (Butterdome on U of A Campus) for an open practice afterschool on Monday, February 13th, 2012. We will time runners and rank them onto the A or B teams, as well, determine who will be entered in the individual events. Busing has been arranged to and from the University for the open practice on Monday, February 13th. We depart the school at 3:15 and return around 6:30 – 7:00 pm.

The Edmonton Journal Games Qualifying (preliminary) Round for the Elementary relay teams is scheduled for February 22nd (busing will be provided to the University but parents need to make arrangements to pick their child up from the Butterdome). The Elementary Girls race event starts at 2:30 pm and the Elementary Boys event begins at 3:20 pm. We will depart the school at 12:20 pm. These times are approximate.

Elementary Individual (200m, 800m and long jump) preliminary rounds will take place on Tuesday, February 28th (no busing provided, parents must provide transportation). Parents will be notified if their child will be entered in one of the individual events. The schedule for elementary individual events is as follows:

Elementary Girls 800m – 6:30 pm Boys 800m – 7:30 pm

Saturday, March 17th is THE BIG DAY! (No busing provided). If any of our teams or individuals qualify in any of the preliminary rounds than we will have the chance to continue to advance on March 19th.

Please complete the attached permission form, and the Release Form from the Edmonton Journal (“No child will be permitted to compete without this signed waiver form.”) and return it on or before January 30th, 2012.
